US Stock Market Live: Dow futures fall another 450 points in sign of more pain


US Stock Market Live: US equity futures are pointing towards more pain ahead on Wall Street after Thursday’s rout wiped out over $2.5 trillion in market capitalisation. The Dow futures are currently trading 420 points lower, while futures linked to the S&P 500 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq are down 50 points and 125 points respectively. As of Thursday’s closing, all major benchmark indices in the US have either slipped into correction territory, meaning a 10% drop from the peak, or into a bear market, meaning a 20% drop from the peak. The Dow Jones is down 10% from the top, while the Nasdaq has nearly slipped into bear market territory with an 18% drop from its peak.

The smallcap Russell 2000 index has slipped into bear market territory already with a 22% fall from the top. All asset classes, including gold, oil, other commodities sold off on Thursday and the pain has spilt over into oil prices in today’s trading session as well, with brent crude slipping to a four-year low.
