Science and spirituality have, for ages, constantly clashed over the possible existence of a higher being. While men of religion claim the world is run by the will of gods, their counterparts in science say the universe is governed by the laws of physics.

Now, a Harvard researcher has unveiled a mathematical formula he believes can successfully prove the existence of God. Dr Willie Soon, an astrophysicist, presented his formula on the Tucker Carlson Network.

Dr Soon’s innovative approach is based on advanced mathematics, which the renowned scientist suggests when coupled with creative reasoning can bring about a confluence of religion and science.

His theory is centred around the ‘fine-tuning argument’, an idea that, in simple terms, suggests that the laws of physics are so perfectly in sync with the prerequisite for life to flourish that it couldn’t just be a coincidence.

For example, life, as we know it wouldn’t have existed, had the value of the empirical physical constant known as the Gravitational constant been even a bit higher or lower than it already is.

Soon’s formula makes reference to the hypothesis that was first proposed by celebrated physicist and Cambridge mathematician Paul Dirac in 1963. The mathematician was initially known as a strong opponent of religion who bitterly asserted against the existence of God.

“There are so many examples of the ever-present forces that allow us to illuminate our lives. God has given us this light, to follow the light and do the best that we can,” Soon said, suggesting hinting at what Dirac’s 1963 theory highlighted.

Dirac’s theory underlined the high level of accuracy with which certain cosmic constants make the existence of life in the Universe possible.

“It seems to be one of the fundamental features of nature that fundamental physical laws are described in terms of a mathematical theory of great beauty and power… We simply have to accept it.

“One could perhaps describe the situation by saying that God is a mathematician of a very high order, and He used very advanced mathematics in constructing the universe,” he had said in a piece in the Scientific American.

However, Stephen Hawking, another renowned scientist, in his last book titled ‘Brief Answers to the Big Questions’, preferred to think that “everything can be explained another way, by the laws of nature.”

“If you believe in science, like I do, you believe that there are certain laws that are always obeyed,” he said.

Hawking was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) at the age of 21 and was told by doctors that he had another two years to live. The scientist, who became the longest-living ALS survivor, died in 2018.

“If you like, you can say the laws are the work of God, but that is more a definition of God than a proof of his existence,” he wrote.
