CSK faced a crushing 50-run loss to the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Friday, as their seasoned spin duo of Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were taken to the cleaners by the RCB middle-order.
“Well, as we’ve been telling you for a number of years, there was no home advantage at Chepauk,” Fleming said in a media interaction.
He added, “We’ve won away from home a couple of times. And we haven’t been able to read… we’ve been really honest with you. We haven’t been able to read the wickets here in the last couple of years. So, it’s not new. We are trying to come to grips each day with what we get, and we don’t know.”
The tactician added that the team has had to work extensively in figuring out the nature of the surface. He said that it is not the Chepauk of old where teams could walk in with four spinners and expect to dictate the flow of the proceedings. Rather, now they have to adapt continuously in every game and admitted to not being able to read the pitch appropriately in the previous match.
“No, we didn’t get it right,” Fleming said. “It’s so hard to read, but we thought it was going to skid on with the dew, but it actually got a bit tacky. So, it certainly made it harder here.”
After a win and a loss, CSK will be taking on the Rajasthan Royals (RR) for their third match of the season in Guwahati on Sunday. RR have been dealt with setbacks in both of their encounters so far, and it is perhaps the last game as captain for Riyan Parag, before Sanju Samson resumes leadership responsibilities from the next match onwards.
