Sun Pharma, JSW Steels among companies likely to expand in Punjab after CM Mann’s investment push – CNBC TV18

Industry majors Sun Pharma, JSW Steels, RPG Group and others are soon likely to expand their feet in Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in a meeting with India Inc. on Wednesday, August 23 firmed up major investment projects for the state.

According to a press statement by the Punjab Government, Chief Minister Mann during the meeting with the industry invited the companies to invest in Punjab, adding that Punjab is committed to providing all necessary requirements for industry expansion including — infrastructure, power, skilled human resources and best industrial and work culture, etc.

Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the state government is open to new ideas and innovations to boost the industrial growth in Punjab, the statement said.

During a meeting with the Chief Minister, CEO of – Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) Business (Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd) Damodharan Satagopan shared that the company is significantly investing in Punjab, citing a conducive business environment and proactive governance in the state. Satagopan shared that the company has an annual turnover of 48,496 Crore and is currently operating in Toansa, Balachaur (SBS Nagar) and Mohali (SAS Nagar). He said that Sun Pharma is actively looking into business expansion through in-licensing, M&A and out-licensing activities for branded products. He said that Sun Pharma also has a strategic interest in establishing Joint Ventures and Research Partnerships with world-renowned academia and institutes, the Punjab government press statement added.

Apart from Sun Pharma, RPG Group’s Vice Chairman — Anant Goenka, also expressed intent towards investing in Punjab. Goenka shared that the State’s single window system has helped create a conducive business environment. Goenka said “CEAT has expansion plans in Punjab as the state is an ideal hub for CEAT’s growth ambitions. He said that the group has already invested in a big way in the South and West adding that now it is the turn of Punjab,” the state government press release said.

Sify Technologies Ltd’s President — Daleep Kaul too committed to setting up a dedicated/captive data centre in Mohali in the First Phase and investing 1500 crore in an Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Horizontal Data Centre in Punjab.

Another industry player to expand its feet includes — JSW group, which agreed to make further investments worth 1600 crore in the state including the expansion of JSW steel coating products and Business Heads of JSW Steel Coated Products Ltd Amarjit Singh Dahiya and Ashwani Kumar Sharma informed the Chief Minister that JSW Steel Coating Products Ltd has purchased 28.17 acres adjacent to the existing plant in Rajpura for expansion worth 1,600 Crore.
