Grisham, an ex-White House press secretary during the Trump Presidency, said she was not just a Trump supporter but ‘a true believer’ and one of his closest advisers, The Washington Post reported.
“The Trump family became my family. I spent Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s at Mar-a-Lago. I saw him when the cameras were off,” Grisham, who also served as chief of staff to former first lady Melania Trump, said.
Grisham claimed the former US president would mock his supporters behind closed doors as ‘basement dwellers’. She added that once on a hospital visit, Trump got upset because cameras focused on the intensive care unit patients and not on him.
“He has no empathy, no morals and no fidelity to the truth. He used to tell me, ‘It doesn’t matter what you say, Stephanie. Say it enough, and people will believe you’,” she said.
Who is Stephanie Grisham?
She served as a press aide to Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Later, she also went on to serve as the press secretary to former first lady Melania Trump.
For a brief period, Grisham served as the White House press secretary, however, she never held a briefing with reporters, The Hill reported.
Thereafter, she transitioned to a communications director role.
Grisham parted ways from the Trump administration after the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, and has since been a critic.
The violent attack resulted in five deaths, including a police officer and a woman shot by police.
On January 6, 2021, Grisham said that she asked Melania Trump if they could at least tweet that “while peaceful protest is the right of every American, there’s no place for lawlessness and violence.”
“She replied with one word: ‘No,’” Grisham said, while a screenshot of the alleged text conversation flashed on a screen.
Grisham noted that she was the first senior Trump staffer to resign that day, adding that the decision was taken as she “couldn’t be part of the insanity any longer.”
Backing US Vice President Kamala Harris, Grisham said she advocated for a Democrat at the convention as she loves her country more than the party.
“Kamala Harris tells the truth, she respects the American people and she has my vote,” Grisham said.
Replying to Grisham’s statement, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in an email, “Stephanie Grisham is a stone-cold loser who clearly suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome and many other mental issues”.
Further Cheung called Grisham a “liar and a fraud”.
