Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: In a day marked by rangebound trading, Indian equity markets closed on a strong note, with both the Sensex and Nifty indices rising by nearly 1% on Friday (August 9).

The Sensex surged 817 points to close at 79,706, while the Nifty climbed 250 points to end at 24,367. The Nifty Bank index also posted solid gains, rising 328 points to 50,484.5, while the Midcap Index soared by 493 points, finishing the session at 57,174.4.

The market witnessed a broad-based rally as all sectoral indices ended in the green. Nifty PSU Bank was a standout performer, climbing nearly 2% as PSU banks surged up to 4%, buoyed by the tabling of the Banking Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.

Among individual stocks, newly listed Ola Electric made a remarkable debut, soaring 20% on its first day. NBCC also saw significant gains, up more than 9% on news of a ₹15,000 crore order win.
