The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has taken a significant step towards enhancing foreign investment in the country by establishing a dedicated foreign portfolio investor (FPI) outreach cell.

The cell will serve as a bridge between foreign investors and the Indian securities market, providing them with guidance and support throughout their engagement, from pre-application to post-registration.

This initiative, part of SEBI’s Alternative Investment Fund and Foreign Portfolio Investors Department (AFD), aims to simplify the process for FPIs looking to enter India’s booming securities market. The outreach cell will assist foreign investors with documentation, compliance processes, and operational challenges, ensuring seamless onboarding and a smoother investment experience.

India has seen a marked increase in FPI inflows over recent years, especially in sectors like technology, finance, and manufacturing, making it an attractive destination for global investors.

According to SEBI’s data, FPI inflows into India during FY24 amounted to approximately ₹3.4 lakh crore, with around ₹2.08 lakh crore being invested in Indian equities and ₹1.2 lakh crore in the debt market., further underlining the importance of creating a supportive framework for foreign investors.

The cell offers a direct line of communication for FPIs, allowing them to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. The launch comes at a crucial time when emerging markets like India are increasingly being viewed as growth drivers for global portfolios.

Foreign investors interested in accessing this support can contact the FPI outreach cell at its email ID, fpioutreach@sebi.gov.in.
