He said SBI is also maintaining an excellent return on assets (ROA), which is more than 1.1% now.
Khara spoke to CNBC-TV18 about his tenure ending in the coming weeks, achievements, unfinished business, and more.
“In the last four years, we generated net profit of over ₹1.6 trillion, higher than the net profit of ₹1.4 trillion in the last 60+years,” he said, adding that this performance gives him a lot of satisfaction.
He said the lender has also ploughed back around ₹1.14 trillion profit in the last four years into capital, “which has actually helped us in growing our loan book without really looking at any capital raise, and maintaining decent capital adequacy ratios also.”
Khara, whose tenure as chairman is coming to an end in a few weeks, said his ambition was to see the bank generating profit after tax of ₹1 trillion. “I hope we will get to see it by the end of the 2024-25 financial year,” he said.
