The two companies will collaborate using TotalEnergies’ AUSEA technology at OIL sites in India. The AUSEA gas analyser is mounted on a drone and comprises a dual sensor, which is capable of detecting methane and carbon dioxide emissions, while also identifying the source.
Oil India said it recently joined the Oil and Gas Decarbonization Charter (OGDC), a global industry initiative launched at COP28, co-charted by TotalEnergies’ CEO.
“By joining our peers in the OGDCC, OIL reiterates India’s commitment to the global community, while underscoring OIL’s dedication to reducing emissions,” Ranjit Rath, chairman and managing director of Oil India, said.
TotalEnergies has made its technology available to other operators among the signatories as a tool to detect, measure and eventually abate methane emissions on their own assets, the company said in a stock exchange filing.
The OGDC’s goal is to work towards net zero operations by 2050 and near-zero upstream methane emissions and zero routine flaring by 2030. OGDC members are also committed to measuring and publicly reporting progress, the company said.
“Today, AUSEA performs campaigns on every continent and contributes to the OGDC signatories’ ambition to aim at near-zero upstream methane emissions by 2030,” Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, said.
Oil India shares were trading 3.07% higher at ₹486.95 apiece at 2.20 pm on Tuesday, November 19. The stock has gained 92.87% this year, so far.
