An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude of the Richter scale hit Meghalaya with its epicentre in East Garo Hills, as per the National Centre for Seismology.
The depth of the earthquake was measured around 5 km below the surface level. It struck at 1:03 pm today.

Another earthquake hit Manipur’s Kamjong at 1:29 pm with its intensity recorded at 4.3 magnitude on the Richter scale as per the NCS.
Myanmar saw four earthquakes in a span of about two hours, causing damage to the buildings and infrastructure in the country.

The neighbour Thailand also witnessed huge destruction of infra and buildings along with Bangkok officials reporting casualties and injuries of people stuck under the collapsed buildings.
Bangkok officials working to rescue the people from the debris of the collapsed buildings, said that seven people have been rescued and two have been declared dead, reported AP.
The first earthquake struck at 11:50 am in Myanmar with intensity of 7.5 magnitude on the Richter scale, as per NCS.

The second earthquake struck Myanmar at 12:02 pm, measuring at 7.0 magnitude. The third earthquake struck on 12:57 pm with the magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale, and fourth earthquake of 4.9 magnitude hit the country at 13:07 pm, as per NCS.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offers prayers for safety and wellbeing of the people. “Concerned by the situation in the wake of the Earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and wellbeing of everyone,” Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“India stands ready to offer all possible assistance. In this regard, asked our authorities to be on standby. Also asked the MEA to remain in touch with the Governments of Myanmar and Thailand,” he added.
