The voting for by-election in Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur and Tamil Nadu’s Erode (East) was held alongside the Delhi Assembly polls on Wednesday, February 5. A total of 10 candidates contested the Milkipur bypoll in what’s a direct battle between Samajwadi Party (SP)’s Ajit Prasad and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Chandrabhanu Paswan.

At least 46 candidates, including 44 independents, are vying for the Erode East constituency. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) VC Chandrakumar has been fielded against Naam Tamilar Katchi’s (NTK) MK Seethalakshmi.

The counting of votes and results for both the Milkipur and Erode East bypolls will be announced on Saturday, February 8.

Milkipur, Erode East Bypolls, Delhi Assembly Elections

Earlier, on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur recorded a voter turnout of 65%, while Erode East witnessed a 64% turnout. The resignation of SP leader Awadhesh Prasad necessitated Milkipur bypolls, while the death of Congress MLA EVKS Elangovan prompted the polls in Tamil Nadu’s Erode East.

The results of Delhi elections will also be declared on Saturday. The ruling AAP is seeking a hat-trick of full terms, while the BJP is determined to win big this time,after 27 years. Congress is hoping for an improvement in its performance after drawing a blank in the last two assembly polls.
