The Madras High Court has directed Star Health Insurance to provide details about a customer data leak involving Telegram chatbots. Telegram said it could not independently identify these chatbots but agreed to remove them if Star Health shares specific details, according to news agency Reuters.

The data leak, first reported in September, reportedly involved a hacker known as xenZen, who allegedly used Telegram chatbots and a website to publicise the stolen information.

The insurer has called the breach a “targeted malicious cyberattack” and is conducting internal investigations while pursuing legal action against the hacker and Telegram.

Telegram has already removed some chatbots linked to the incident after media reports but has resisted providing additional details about the hacker or issuing a permanent ban on accounts involved in the breach.

Star Health is also facing scrutiny amid reports suggesting potential involvement from its Chief Security Officer, Amarjeet Khanuja.

To identify the hacker, Star Health has sought assistance from Indian cyber security authorities.
