As part of the collaboration, the steel manufacturer has supplied 2.2 metric tonnes of JT stainless steel for each container, replacing traditional carbon steel in the sidewalls, end walls, and roof.
These containers are made using high-strength JT grade stainless steel, also referred to as N7 under BIS 6991 specifications.
The containers are designed to transport a variety of goods, including polymers, batteries, and rubber.
Additionally, the underframes are made of customised stainless steel tubes. This transition has reduced the container weight by approximately 500 kilograms, resulting in increased cargo capacity, improved fuel efficiency, and lower operational costs.
The use of JT grade stainless steel not only reduces the weight of the containers, improving fuel efficiency, but also ensures a longer lifespan with minimal maintenance. This makes it a more sustainable solution with a reduced carbon footprint, according to Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless.
Since stainless steel is an inert metal, it prevents contamination by not reacting with the materials being transported.
“This partnership with CJ Darcl is part of a larger vision of creating sustainable, cost-effective solutions that benefit both the industry and the environment,” added Jindal on 30 September 2024.
Jindal Stainless also provided comprehensive technical support throughout the project, collaborating in the design phase, conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Factor of Safety (FOS) analysis, developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and providing training to the fabrication team at CJ Darcl’s approved vendor, Kamal Coach Works, Jaipur.
Shares of Jindal Stainless gained over 1.6%, reaching an intraday high of ₹793.25 per piece on the BSE on Monday. The stock ended the day’s trade 1.18% higher at ₹789.6 per piece on the BSE.
