From Israel’s point of view, the latest escalation is a continuing trail of violence triggered by the attack from Hamas, a terrorist organisation based out of the Gaza strip in Palestine, on October 7, 2023. Since then, the Israel has retaliated with ground invasion in Gaza targetting Hamas, leading to deaths of over 41,000 people, as per latest reports.

While Israel was busy in Gaza, Hezbollah, a terror organisation and political outfit in Lebanon, stepped up its attack on the other border with Israel. Both Hamas and Hezebollah are backed by the establishment in Iran.

Both Hamas and Hezbollah, along with the Houthi rebels in Yemen, are considered proxies for the army in Tehran. On September 28, Israel said that Hezbollah leader Hasan Nasrallah had been killed in an air strike.
