Kunal Kamra’s controversial ‘gaddar’ (traitor) remark against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has landed him into more trouble, with three separate cases filed against the stand-up comedian.

All these cases have been lodged at the Khar police station, news agency ANI reported.

This came after the Madras High Court granted interim anticipatory bail to Kamra

on Friday. The 36-year-old earlier moved the high court to seek transit anticipatory bail and submitted that he hails from the Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu after making a shift from Mumbai in 2021 and was fearing arrest by the Mumbai Police.

Fresh cases against Kunal Kamra

Among the three new complaints lodged against Kamra, one was by the Mayor of Jalgaon City. The others are from a hotelier as well as a Nashik-based businessman.

Kamra has already been summoned by the Khar police two times for questioning in the matter, but he has yet to appear.

The Mumbai Police had, on March 27, asked him to appear before them on March 31. He was called to the Khar police station for further questioning in the matter.

As per the ANI report, this was the third summons to him in the case lodged at the police station by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.

What’s the case?

The controversy stems from the comedian’s recent show at the Habitat Comedy Club in the Khar area of Mumbai. During his stint, Kamra performed a parody song with a ‘gaddar’ (traitor) jibe targeting the Shiv Sena leader. This received major backlash from

Eknath Shinde‘s party members, who later visited the property and vandalised it.

Thereafter, a case was registered against Kamra for making defamatory remarks against the senior leader.

Interim anticipatory bail

The Madras High Court has granted Kamra interim anticipatory bail until April 7 on the condition, which required him to execute a bond to the satisfaction of the judicial magistrate at Villupuram district’s Vanur, PTI reported.

Notice was also issued to the Khar Police, which is mentioned as the 2nd Respondent, by Justice Sunder Mohan.

Kamra submitted before the court that he has been “ordinarily a resident of this State (Tamil Nadu)” ever since he shifted there from Mumbai in 2021.

The matter will next be heard on April 7.

Shiv Sena (UBT) seeks special protection for Kamra

On Saturday, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said he had told Kamra to say whatever he wants to and “not run away from the law.”

Calling Mumbai Police ‘unbiased,’ Raut also sought special protection for Kamra from the Devendra Fadnavis-led state government.

“Kangana Ranaut was also provided special force for her security when she had a rift with us,” ANI quoted Raut as saying.
