Flight Bomb Hoaxes | Mumbai police question minor over threats to airlines – CNBC TV18

Mumbai police on Wednesday said they are questioning a minor for allegedly sending hoax bomb threat messages to IndiGo and Air India on October 14.

Both airlines received these threats via X (formerly Twitter) concerning three international flights. IndiGo received threats for its flights from Mumbai to Jeddah and Mumbai to Muscat, while Air India received a threat for its flight from Mumbai to New York.

On motive, police suggest that the minor had a financial dispute with another individual. Preliminary investigations indicate that the minor used this person’s picture to send the threat messages to settle scores. The police believe the minor created an X account using this individual’s name to frame him. Both the minor and the person whose picture was used are from Chhattisgarh.

More than 10 bomb threats were sent to airlines since October 14.

On Tuesday, two airlines received threat messages for their domestic flights. Akasa Airlines received a threat for its Kolkata to Mumbai flight, and SpiceJet received a threat for its Darbhanga to Mumbai flight.

On Wednesday, SpiceJet received another threat for its Darbhanga to Mumbai flight, and IndiGo received threats for its Mumbai to Singapore flight.

Mumbai police have filed three FIRs related to the threat messages from October 14 and 15, and investigations are ongoing. The police claim they are coordinating with other relevant agencies and have stated that, so far, there is no link between the threats issued on October 14, 15, and 16.
