Elon Musk, the owner of social media platform X, announced on Sunday, September 1, that he would begin revealing a “daily data dump” of what he described as the “crimes” committed by Justice Alexandre de Moraes under Brazilian law. This declaration comes in response to Brazil’s Supreme Court ordering a nationwide suspension of his social media platform, X (formerly known as Twitter).

Musk launched a scathing attack on Justice Moraes, stating, “He [Justice Moraes] can block the platform in Brazil, but he can’t stop the whole world from knowing his illegal, shameful & hypocritical deeds.”

“Today, we launch the daily data dump on the crimes – under Brazilian law – that fake ‘judge’ @alexandre has committed! He can block this platform in Brazil, but he can’t stop the whole world from knowing his illegal, shameful & hypocritical deeds. Karma’s a b*tch bro,” Musk said on X.

Justice Moraes had recently ordered the suspension of Musk’s platform, X, across Brazil after Musk refused to appoint a legal representative for the company in the country, defying a court directive. The suspension resulted in widespread outages of the platform across Brazil, intensifying the ongoing conflict between Musk and Brazilian authorities over content moderation, including issues related to extremism, misinformation, and far-right rhetoric.

Moraes criticized Musk for showing “total disrespect for Brazilian sovereignty,” asserting that X’s actions demonstrated an intent to evade judicial control. Along with blocking X, Moraes also froze the assets of SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service in Brazil and imposed fines on those attempting to access X via VPNs.

Alexandre de Moraes, a conservative and former member of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB), has long been a formidable opponent of President Bolsonaro. Known for his “zero tolerance” policy, Moraes has been vocal in condemning the alleged “criminal attitudes” of left-wing movements and strongly supported harsh police methods.

In March 2022, Moraes made headlines by ordering the suspension of Telegram in Brazil, accusing the platform of failing to block accounts spreading misinformation and ignoring court orders—a move publicly opposed by President Bolsonaro. By October 2022, Moraes was granted the authority to remove online content violating court rules, a measure aimed at combating misinformation and hate speech. He subsequently ordered the suspension of President Bolsonaro’s social media accounts for spreading disinformation.
