Delhi Weather Upadate: Multiple trains delayed, IMD issues ‘yellow alert’ as cold wave intensifies – CNBC TV18

The India Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for Monday, January 13, for dense to moderate fog in the Delhi-NCR region. The weather forecast department said that a fresh western disturbance would affect northwest India from the night of January 14.

Under its influence, rainfall or snowfall activity is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Punjab, among others, over the coming days.

On Monday, the IMD predicted a mainly cloudy sky in Delhi, followed by smog or moderate fog at most places and dense at a few places likely in the morning, with smog or shallow fog likely in the evening and night. The maximum and minimum temperatures will likely be around 19 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Meanwhile, the air quality in the national capital was in the ‘poor’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi was measured at 274 at 9 am, which can cause breathing discomfort to most people on prolonged exposure. The AQI between 0 and 50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, 301-400 is very poor, and 401-500 is severe.

On Monday, Delhi Airport announced that low visibility procedures were still in progress at the Indira Gandhi International Airport but there was no impact on the flight operation.

In a post on X, it wrote, “Low visibility procedures are still in progress at Delhi Airport. However, there has been no impact on flight operation. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information.”

Multiple trains delayed

Due to foggy weather, several trains were delayed and some were cancelled. The Purushottam Express had the longest delay (311 minutes), followed by the Poorva Express (198 minutes). The Shramjeevi Express and JBP NZM SF Express experienced delays of 197 minutes and 187 minutes, respectively.

The list of affected trains included the Rajendra Nagar Patna Tejas Express (124 minutes), YPR Dee Duronto Express (154 minutes) and Suhaildev Express (105 minutes).

The NDLS Humsafar was also delayed by 107 minutes and the Kaifiyat Express by 68 minutes, respectively. The Gondwana Express and YPR Sampark Kranti Express also experienced delays of 92 and 91 minutes, respectively, while the MP Sampark Kranti Express was delayed by 65 minutes.

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) revoked Stage-III measures of the revised Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Sunday, citing improved air quality in Delhi. However, actions under Stages I and II remain in effect, with officials monitoring to prevent further deterioration.
