The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made a historic comeback in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, securing a decisive victory after 27 years. A key factor behind the BJP’s success was its overwhelming support among women voters, who played a pivotal role in shaping the electoral outcome.

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 60.54%, with women outvoting men at 60.92% compared to 60.21%. Of the voters who exercised their franchise, 50.42 lakh were men while 44.08 lakh were women. This surge in female participation underscores their growing political influence, making them a crucial demographic for political parties.

Women voters constitute 46.2% of Delhi’s total electorate, with 71.73 lakh registered female voters in the city. The past few months also witnessed a surge in voter registrations among women, with over 96,000 new female voters signing up in just three weeks, accounting for nearly 70% of the 5.1 lakh new voter applications. This increase in engagement signaled a shifting electoral dynamic, which BJP effectively tapped into.

The BJP’s resounding success in Delhi was fueled by its women-centric welfare schemes, prominently featured in its election manifesto. The party introduced the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, promising a monthly aid of ₹2,500 for women, which was one of the most significant cash transfer pledges in recent Delhi elections.

Other major promises included ₹21,000 financial assistance for pregnant women, increased pensions for widows and senior citizens, a ₹500 LPG cylinder subsidy for poor women, one free gas cylinder per year on Holi and Diwali, and six nutritional kits annually for women.

These promises were designed to address both immediate financial relief and long-term social security, making the BJP’s campaign highly appealing to women voters, particularly in economically weaker sections, slum dwellers, and middle-class households.

Polling for the 70-member Assembly with with 699 candidates in the fray was held in 13,766 stations on February 5 from 7 am to 6 pm.

According to ECI data, the northeast district of Delhi recorded the highest turnout at 66.25% whereas the southeast district saw the lowest turnout at 56.40%. Among individual assembly constituencies, Mustafabad had the highest voter turnout at 69.01%, while Mehrauli recorded the lowest at 53.02%.
