On Monday, July 30, Apple launched the iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 1 update, which includes the much-anticipated Apple Intelligence — a suite of AI tools unveiled at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). This update is also available for iPad and Mac users in their respective beta versions.

While many Apple enthusiasts are excited about the new AI features, there’s a small catch: Apple Intelligence is currently available only in Beta mode. Users interested in trying out these new tools will need to join a waitlist.

Apple Intelligence Features

The iOS 18.1 update brings several new features designed to enhance the user experience. One standout addition is the AI-powered writing tool. This tool not only checks spelling and grammar but also has the capability to rewrite text in various styles, such as Concise, Friendly, or Professional. Additionally, it can summarize text, highlighting key points for easier comprehension.

Siri, Apple’s voice assistant, gets a fresh look in iOS 18.1, featuring a glow around the display’s edges when activated. It also boasts improved contextual awareness, allowing it to understand and respond to questions even if users don’t use precise terms.

In the Messages app, new smart reply options provide quick, context-based responses to incoming messages.

The Photos app has been upgraded with a Memory Movie option, which automatically creates movies based on user prompts.

Users can adjust the media selection and change the audio manually. The app also features a natural language search, allowing users to find media using simple language commands.

Safari users will now be able to summarize web pages when Reader Mode is enabled.

The update also introduces a call recording feature in the Phone app, with recordings stored in the Notes app along with transcription options.

A new Apple Intelligence Report feature in Settings allows users to view and export their activity data with Face ID authentication.

The iOS 18.1 Developer Beta 1 update is available for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, both powered by the A17 Pro chipset. Developer Beta updates for iPadOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia 15.1 are also available for iPads and Macs with Apple Silicon chips.
