Bharti Enterprises Founder and Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal proclaimed, “A new era of seamless global connectivity beckons,” while announcing Bharti Airtel’s partnership with SpaceX to introduce Starlink’s high-speed satellite internet in India.

The agreement is subject to regulatory approvals for SpaceX to sell Starlink services in the country.

Mittal’s statement comes after his call at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona for the telecom and satellite industries to unite in expanding internet access to remote and underserved regions. He recalled a similar appeal at MWC 2017, which led to reduced roaming charges globally.

“For the telecom industry, the addition of satellite technology should be no different from bringing new technologies to its customers. Just like 4G, 5G, and 6G in the future, we will now have one more technology in our mix—SAT-G,” Mittal said.

Under the partnership, Airtel and SpaceX will explore ways to integrate Starlink into Airtel’s offerings, including making Starlink equipment available in Airtel retail stores, providing satellite broadband to businesses, and extending connectivity to schools, healthcare centres, and remote locations.

Airtel will also assess how Starlink’s satellite technology can enhance its existing infrastructure, while SpaceX may utilise Airtel’s ground facilities in India.
